This page provides information on Real Help Now schemes to help people at risk of losing their job, to give extra support from day one for people who become unemployed and to give incentives for employers to recruit and train unemployed people.

September and January Guarantees
(DCSF)
This is a guaranteed offer, by the end of September, of a suitable place in learning for every 16 and 17-year-old. 16 and 17-year-olds who are not in education, employment or training by January 2010 are guaranteed a further offer.

Apprenticeships (England)
(DCSF)
Apprenticeships are a publicly funded training programme delivering skills for employers, and training and job opportunities for young people and adults.

myplace
(DCSF)
The Big Lottery Fund is delivering myplace on behalf of the Department for Children, Schools and Families. myplace aims to deliver world-class youth facilities that are driven by the active participation of young people and reflect their views and needs. So far, myplace has funded 62 projects across England, worth £240 million.

Backing Young Britain
(DWP)
Backing Young Britain is a national cross-government campaign. It aims to encourage employers all over the country to do everything possible to help young people obtain a job, training or work skills and experience.

Education and Training for Individuals
(BIS)
Training opportunities have been enhanced and linked with the support available through Jobcentre Plus. The aim is to help individuals get a job, stay in work, progress at work, or get back into work after unemployment.

Education Maintenance Allowance
(DCSF)
Education Maintenance Allowance is a weekly payment of £10, £20 or £30 (dependent on household income), paid directly to young people who stay in learning after the end of their compulsory schooling.

Flexible New Deal
(DWP)
Flexible New Deal aims to help jobseekers find and stay in work. While they are on Flexible New Deal, jobseekers will get support that is tailored for their individual needs. The deal aims to improve the skills they already have and equip them with new ones.

Graduate Talent Pool and Graduate Opportunities
(BIS)
The Graduate Talent Pool programme encourages employers, including local authorities, to create graduate internships. It is supported by an online tool that matches places with graduates. Internships are one of the graduate opportunities being promoted to graduates. Others include postgraduate study, setting up their own enterprises, volunteering and Teach First.

Local Employment Partnerships
(DWP)
Local Employment Partnerships are a deal between government and business to tackle the recruitment and skills challenge that currently exists in the labour market and economy.

Recruitment Subsidy
(DWP)
To help make employers’ next recruitment decision an easy one, Jobcentre Plus is offering them £1,000 for every eligible person that they recruit who has been claiming jobseeker’s allowance for six months or more.
