Real Help Now schemes local authorities deliver

  • Local Authorities: Bidding for social housing grant (Homes and Communities Agency)
    Grant funding will allow councils to deliver up to 3,900 new homes for rent, building on their own land and to high environmental standards.
  • Mortgage Rescue Scheme (CLG)
    The Mortgage Rescue Scheme is a targeted scheme to help vulnerable households (with dependant children, elderly or disabled members) to remain in their homes if they are facing the threat of repossession.
  • Preventing Repossession Fund (CLG)
    The Preventing Repossession Fund allows local authorities to offer small interest-free loans to families at risk of homelessness through repossession or eviction.

  • HomeBuy Direct (CLG)
    HomeBuy Direct is a shared equity scheme that provides equity loans to help first-time buyers buy selected new-build properties.
  • Homeowner Mortgage Support Scheme (CLG)
    The Homeowner Mortgage Support Scheme enables eligible borrowers to defer a proportion of their monthly mortgage interest payments for up to two years. The Government will underwrite a proportion of any loss incurred on the deferred interest payments if the borrower defaults.
  • Housing Possession Court Duty Scheme (Ministry of Justice)
    The Housing Possession Court Duty Scheme provides free on-the-day advice and representation in courts in England and Wales for people facing repossession.
  • Kickstart Housing Delivery (Homes and Communities Agency)
    Kickstart Housing Delivery aims to unlock sites in England for the development of high-quality, mixed tenure homes (sale, intermediate and social rented) where the investment of the Homes and Communities Agency can unlock immediate housing delivery.
  • Pre-action Protocol for Possession Claims Based on Mortgage or Home Purchase Plan Arrears in Respect of Residential Property (Ministry of Justice)
    The protocol is a new set of guidelines to help resolve disputes over mortgage payments and arrears. It has been drawn up by the Civil Justice Council and applies to claims issued from 19 November 2008.
  • Pre-action Protocol for Possession Claims Based on Rent Arrears (Ministry of Justice)
    This protocol applies to residential possession claims by social landlords (such as local authorities, registered social landlords and housing action trusts) that are based solely on claims for rent arrears.
  • Support for Mortgage Interest (DWP)
    Support for Mortgage Interest may help homeowners claiming income-based benefits to meet their mortgage interest payments. In response to the economic downturn, DWP has introduced temporary new support measures.
