AboutLike most countries around the world, the UK is facing exceptional challenges as a result of the economic downturn. The Government has responded by delivering support to individuals, families and businesses to help them through this time more quickly, strongly and fairly. This support comes together under the Real Help Now banner.

The Government’s priority is to ensure that Britain is well placed to both weather the recession and quickly take advantage of the recovery. The Government is promoting the action it is taking to fight the recession, and the real help now available to families and businesses to support them through the downturn.

The world economy is seeing the most difficult economic conditions for generations. All countries have been hit. The Government is taking action internationally, nationally and locally to protect people and businesses from the worst of the downturn, and investing for recovery so that we come through the recession sooner and stronger.

There are many schemes available for citizens and businesses under the Real Help Now banner, which the Government is promoting directly to those that need the help most. The role of local authorities varies from scheme to scheme. In some cases it is to implement the scheme in their area, or to influence the delivery of the scheme. In others, local authorities have no direct role but are likely to be asked about schemes by people in their area, and need to have information at hand in order to help.

This website is here to help local authorities with information on all the schemes in one place, to make these roles easier to fulfil.
